Next to a dentist appointment there is nothing as stressful as going out on a first date. At least with the dentist you can get some Novocain to numb the pain. There is the constant need to impress the person on the other side of the table, the worry about whether or not you’re talking about yourself too much, and if your clothes look all right. Let’s face it; first dates aren’t never the most relaxing of events.

Still, you don’t need to worry or create any more stress than already exists, either. First dates are supposed to be fun. They are a chance for you to get to know someone new even if the there is no second date. Here is a list of Dating tips to start you out right.

• Make it affordable - A first date is just what it sounds like. It’s your first chance to get to know someone better. It doesn’t need to be all out and “show-offy”. Save the big spending for later in case things work out.
  
  
• Pick somewhere you can talk – There is no talking during the movies and you’ll need to yell in their ear the whole time at a crowded bar. Base your first date location on whether or not you can comfortably talk in it without interruption. Your focus on a first date should be getting to know that new someone and you can’t do that without talking.
  
  
• Play it loose and casual – Wear comfy clothes and you’ll be comfortable. While wearing a new outfit for a first date may impress that person, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be relaxed and comfortable. What if you decide to go for a walk after dinner and your new make the entire experience unbearable? Wear for comfortable, flattering, dependable clothes which won’t pinch, sag, break, ride up, and leave you fiddling all night.
  
  
• Choose an easy to find location – Pick a date location no further than thirty minutes away or one that will require you to Google map it. If things go well on your first date, then you can try out that hard-to-find location another time.
  
  
• Stay away from alcohol - There is nothing wrong with having a drink but the key is moderation. You’re going on a first date, not a night out drinking with your college roommates. Drinking heavily on a first date is a sure recipe for disaster.
  
  
• Plan some time to get to know one another – Even the best planned dates often skimp on the most important detail of a first date and that’s getting to know each other a little bit better. Don’t have a date involve so much activity that there is no time for any one on one interaction. If you choose to attend an activity together, make sure you’ve allowed for some down time afterwards chatting.
  
  
• Have fun and enjoy yourself - Don’t think you need to take your date out to do something you hate just to win some brownie points. Trust me, you won’t. Instead, together plan some activities you both enjoy.
